I am a UK-based documentary photographer living in rural Lincolnshire; my photographic practice is people-focused and tends to take place within the context of intangible cultural heritage. As defined by UNESCO, this includes: oral tradition; performing arts; social practices, rituals and festive events; knowledges and practices concerning nature and the universe; and traditional crafts. These areas seem to cover the vast majority of my photographic practice.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Theology, a postgraduate diploma in Documentary Filmmaking, an MA in International Relations and an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. In addition to stills photography I produce audio projects and moving image. I primarily work in the UK, but also have ongoing projects overseas, principally in Brazil and Ukraine. I speak fluent Portuguese and a smattering of other languages. At the moment, I am learning Ukrainian.
I am an outward looking person and for me the camera is the vehicle that takes me out into the world and allows me to meet people and find out more about them.
